  • Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

  • Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

  • Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,

operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,

act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

  • Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.

  • Acts as cashier.

  • Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

  • Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.

  • Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

  • Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

  • May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.


College Assistant




Brooklyn College of the City University of New York seeks applications for a part-time College Assistant (CA) - Content Writer position in the Office of Communications and Marketing. Working closely with the editorial team, including the Associate Director of News and Information and the Associate Director of Editorial and Content Strategy, the College Assistant will produce content for "Best of BC" on the Brooklyn College website. This feature highlights outstanding students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This job will include writing profiles and stories as assigned, coordinating photos and/or other media, and overseeing content production through to completion and posting. The College Assistant will produce a minimum of two profiles per week—one focusing on a student and one on an alum. As a writer, the College Assistant must ensure that all content aligns to and reflects the college’s established brand. The College Assistant may also be asked to support others on the team in performing related duties.


  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.


  • Four-year college degree preferred

  • Strong writing skills

  • Ability to turn around copy on tight deadlines

  • Excellent interactions and ability to work comfortably with college students and alumni

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and work well with a variety of people/personalities

  • Ability to work flexible hours

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to the college’s mission

  • Familiarity with digital content processes, applications, equipment a plus


$20 - $25 per hour; commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a part time position (up to 20 hours per week).
