  • Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

  • Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

  • Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,

operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,

act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

  • Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.

  • Acts as cashier.

  • Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

  • Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.

  • Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

  • Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

  • May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.


College Assistant




Brooklyn College of the City University of New York seeks applications for the College Assistant (CA) – Usher position in the Performing Arts Center unit within the Office of Strategic Initiatives. Reporting to the Theater House Manager or designee, the CA will provide event production support and patron services for on-campus performing arts complex events. The CA is expected to provide exceptional customer service and adhere to policy and procedure in the carrying out of all tasks.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Under supervision, sets up theater lobby and seating areas with appropriate audience flow ropes, stanchions and ticket stanchions.

  • Under supervision, assists in the placement of tables and chairs in lobby areas and the dressing of such tables.

  • Reads/checks patron tickets, tears tickets, scans digital tickets using ticket scanning device.

  • Monitors theater lobby and performance spaces for food/drink. Relates and enforces theater policy to patrons attending events within the theater complex.

  • Under supervision, assists with check-in and confirmation of necessary identifying documents with regards to current Brooklyn College and CUNY guidelines for all event attendees.

  • Provides patrons with information regarding theater spaces, theater events, and theater policy.

  • Assists patrons with locating seat assignments, box office location, lobby restrooms and other theater complex spaces.

  • Under supervision, assists with program distribution, general crowd control in the entering and exiting of patrons within the performing arts complex event spaces and general theater safety.

  • This specification describes typical assignments. Related duties may be assigned as needed.


  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.


  • High School Diploma

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and work well with a variety of people/personalities.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.
