The Department of Restorative Dentistry at New York City College of Technology invites applications for a full time College Laboratory Technician (CLT) position focusing on dental laboratory technology to begin during the Fall 2019 semester. The Restorative Dentistry department has a full-time faculty of six, with eleven part-time faculty members, four adjunct CLTs and one administrative assistant. It offers an Associate in Applied Science degree (AAS) in Dental Laboratory Technology. Restorative Dentistry program at NYCCT is accredited by Commission On Dental Accreditation (CODA).
The successful College Laboratory Technician (CLT) candidate will be expected to set up, maintain, and organize the department’s laboratories, as well as purchase, receive, and manage the inventory of equipment and supplies for all offered courses. The CLT will provide support to the teaching faculty and adjunct CLTs under the direction of the Department Chair. The CLT is expected to collaborate as a member of a team, exert cooperative effort, and exhibit a collaborative and helpful attitude.
Ensure set up, maintenance and organization of department laboratories
Assist faculty with setting up learning exercises, and with use of equipment and materials in laboratories
Maintain safety and hygiene standards
Coordinate OSHA and Infection control compliance program
Assist with budget preparation for equipment and supplies
Contact vendors for price quotes. Input purchase requests
Attend trade shows
Coordinate schedule for adjunct CLTs
Weekend or evening hours may be required, as necessary.
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
An associate degree in Dental Laboratory Technology
Recent experience working in a dental laboratory
Knowledge of all phases in each of the specialties of dental technology
Experience in evaluating dental materials
Knowledge of preventative maintenance for laboratory equipment
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to:
Set up, maintain, and organize dental laboratories
Operate current dental laboratory equipment
Utilize dental materials currently used in all specialty areas
Read and comprehend Instructional manuals
Lift materials and equipment up to fifty pounds
Employ good verbal and written communication skills
Use Microsoft office programs
Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of various elements of dental laboratory technology including but not limited to health and safety requirements, various processing techniques, working of laboratory equipment, understanding of materials used in the program, technical proficiency in dental CAD/CAM systems, and the ability to develop relationships with vendors and attend trade shows. Computer skills include MS Word, Excel and training in inventory control software.
