The Division of Continuing Education at City Tech, serving over 10,000 students each year, is committed to creating pathways to higher education, job training, and professional development programs, as well as personal enrichment opportunities for the community. Three departments, the Adult Learning Center, the Workforce and Industry Training Center, and the Continuing Studies Center, each with its diverse population of learners, address the economic and workforce development needs of the evolving New York City workplace. Programs evolve in response to new technologies, changing demographics, updated legislation and regulatory statutes, and require ongoing research and consultation with industry representatives.

Reporting to the Dean of the Division of Continuing Education, the Manager of the Continuing Studies Center (CSC) is responsible for development and overall management of tuition-based courses open to the general public and special grant and contract adult education opportunities. These programs focus on skill building, career enhancement, professional certifications, CEUs, preparation for licensing examinations, development of new or enhanced personal growth and career options. The Manager provides guidance to instructors, oversees instruction, and assesses learning outcomes while ensuring the fiscal viability of the Center.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure smooth, coordinated operations of all tuition based courses and contracts offered by the Continuing Studies Center

  • Manage an effective marketing program - print and online, including production and mailing of semi-annual bulletin. Research enrollment demographics to target outreach

  • Oversee fiscal operations as they relate to salaries of instructors and staff, product pricing, costs for testing, certifications, instructional supplies, and equipment. Survey surrounding institutions and develop competitive pricing structure

  • Conduct outreach for faculty and staff and evaluate performance as per CUNY schedule. Utilize assessment information for gauging effectiveness of instruction and for implementing program changes

  • Explore changing business and community environments, labor market information, and advisory board information in the program development process

  • Prepare reports pertaining to operations for internal and external constituencies and CUNY Central Office

  • Maintain student registration system that documents enrollments, courses, and learning outcomes

  • Resolve emerging student issues, monitor and assess staff behaviors as they are conducive to a supportive learning environment

  • Secure lab and classroom space appropriate for support of specific curricular content

  • Interact with credentialing authorities to ensure that courses meet requirements for certifications, licensing or continuing education units (CEUs)

  • Operationalize grants and contracts administered by the Continuing Studies Center

  • Collaborate with college faculty to create partnerships with external agencies seeking new programs at City Tech

  • Maintain and increase relationships with CBOs, unions, companies and workforce consortia to promote ongoing and new program offerings.



Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience.


  • Three or more years of relevant experience in program development, management of revenue generating projects, and staff supervision.

  • Master's Degree preferred.


Manages the Continuing Education Office and designs, develops, and implements instructional programs and activities, coordinating with other College support systems.

  • Oversees the general operation of the Continuing Education Office; hires and manages staff; oversees registration, payments, and other office activities

  • Designs and makes recommendations to Director for academic, outreach, general training, and certificate programs

  • Develops and writes grant proposals

  • Hires faculty and coordinates teaching schedules

  • Observes classes, analyzes student evaluations, and performs faculty evaluations

  • Orients new faculty and acts as liaison to resolve faculty issues

  • Plans and implements advertising campaigns and designs marketing and other program materials

  • Maintains financial information such as tuition payments, material costs, and faculty payroll

  • Develops mailing lists and analyzes marketing strategies and student profiles

  • Acts as a liaison between the Continuing Education Office and other internal and external units on co-operative and co-sponsored programs.
