POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Dean of Faculty is a member of the Senior Academic Affairs Team, and works in collaboration with the Department Chairs, who are the executive officers of their Departments. The Dean coordinates efforts to support faculty development, in teaching, research, scholarship, and creative activity; faculty recruitment and hiring; faculty workload; and the reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Working with the Director of Human Resources and the Chief Diversity Officer, to ensure the integrity of the hiring, reappointment, promotion and tenure processes.

  • Serving as the Secretary to the College Personnel and Budget Committee, coordinating recommendations to the Provost regarding appointments, renewals and promotions of faculty and staff.

  • Supporting and promoting faculty research and scholarship in collaboration with Department Chairs and other areas of the College, including the Office of College Advancement.

  • Overseeing the Human Rights Protection Program (HRPP), in support of faculty research.

  • Developing and providing coordination for programs and initiatives aligned with the College Strategic Plan and Academic Plan priorities related to teaching, learning, service, and scholarship.

  • Reviewing faculty assignments and workload to ensure compliance with contractual and CUNY Board of Trustees’ policies.

  • Actively engage faculty in orientations, trainings, and workshops.

  • Facilitates informal resolution of faculty complaints; partnering with the Labor Designee and Office of Legal Counsel to resolve formal faculty grievances and disciplinary actions.

  • Serve on campus-wide and system-wide committees.

  • Providing support to the full-time faculty who serve as directors of teaching, learning, and scholarship initiatives, including but not limited to the following areas:

o Kingsborough Center for E-Learning (KCeL)

o Kingsborough Center for Teaching and Learning (KCTL), working collaboratively to strengthen faculty development, including new faculty orientation.

o Historically Underrepresented Faculty and Staff Resource Center (HURFS) Resource Center.

o Civic Engagement.

This position is interim with a possibility of becoming permanent based on fiscal ability.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Specific Qualifications:

Earned doctorate is required, with academic and scholarly achievement sufficient to qualify for appointment as a full professor with tenure

  • Eight years related experience, with five years' work experience in higher education, including at least three years' academic administrative and/or leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment.

  • Demonstrated collegial style of leadership that will support faculty and staff in their efforts to provide an excellent academic environment.

  • Experience working with centralized and unionized systems of public higher education and resolution of faculty complaints and grievances.

  • Experience with the regional and programmatic accreditation processes.

  • Demonstrated experience using technology.

  • Excellent understanding and appreciation of current major issues and trends in post-secondary institutions.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$140,000 - $160,000
