They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. Director of Athletics & Intramurals reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs and is responsible for directing and coordinating the development and administration of all athletic programs: intercollegiate, intramural and recreation (swimming pool). The Student Athletics Director works cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff across the College community to advance the athletic program. The Director provides leadership over such functions as recruitment of athletes; compliance; sports information; and the supervision of all programs in support of the health safety, retention, and academic progress of student athletes. In addition, the Director is responsible for coordinating, preparing, and implementing athletic budgets; preparing appropriate reports; and providing overall selection, supervision, and evaluation of all Athletic Department support personal.

Director of Athletics & Intramurals’s typical duties include:

  • Develop policies and guidelines for all Athletic department operations, coaches, student athletes, and staff. Ensure athletic handbook is kept current.

  • Ensure full compliance with NCAA rules, policies and regulations as well as the City University of New York (CUNY) Athletics Conference.

  • Collaborate with the College’s Title IX Officer to provide training and educational programming for all student athletes, coaches and athletic program staff.

  • Develop and oversee external funding initiatives, protocols and compliance

  • Develop and manage Health and safety protocols

  • Manage the purchase, receipt, inventory, distribution, collection, cleaning, and repair of all equipment and uniforms of the athletic program.

  • Oversee the maintenance and preparation of athletic facilities for use by the College's athletic team and staff and community.

  • Represent the College at national and regional athletic meetings and conferences.

  • Prepare annual schedules for intercollegiate athletic teams.

  • Prepare student eligibility lists for the College and related national athletic organizations.

  • Oversee physical examinations of all athletes and facilitates the processing of reports and claims.

  • Prepare annual financial report to include an analysis of incomes and expenditures for all team and recreational and intramural programs.

  • Collaborate with other College departments on recruiting and retaining student athletes.

  • Collaborate with College communications professionals and the media on publicity and reporting of athletic events and results.

  • Hire and evaluate coaches, other staff, officials etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.

Other qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, sport science, or related discipline; Master's degree preferred

  • Coaching experience of overseeing recreational or sports activities preferred

  • Knowledge of NCAA governing rules (Division III)

  • Full knowledge of the operation of intercollegiate athletic programs

  • Experience with budget preparation, reporting, and monitoring preferred

  • Establish and maintain appropriate policies and standards for teams and recreational groups

  • Collect and analyze departmental statistics and data and prepare and distribute reports as appropriate
