POSITION DETAILS
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering 60 associate and baccalaureate degrees, solicits applications for the position of Director of Instructional Technology and the Technology Enhancement Centers (iTEC).
The Department of Instructional Technology and the Technology Enhancement Centers (iTEC) at City Tech provides support to faculty and students in the pursuit of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning with technology. Using academic software, the Director and staff guide faculty to make effective use of online learning environments. Workshops for students are designed to complement faculty workshops, so faculty can spend their time teaching instead of training students in the use of technology. The department’s facilities include a suite of high-performance Mac and PC labs to enhance student learning. Under the guidance of the Provost and with the support of the Online Learning Advisory Council (OLAC), the department also oversees faculty and student development in the use of hybrid and online courses. Faculty members learn how to infuse digital technology into their pedagogical practices to create engaging online learning spaces with the goal of deepening student understanding and increasing student success.
Reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director will oversee the college-wide educational technology needs of the academic departments, serving both faculty and students, and will oversee operations of Instructional Technology and the Technology Enhancement Centers (iTEC labs).
Duties include:
Oversee services, which include management, administration and support for Blackboard, the University's course management system, as well as ePortfolio on OpenLab, and other innovative technologies, such as Yuja, maintain the department website, and oversee the iTEC labs.
Conduct regular assessment of services, resources and facilities to inform planning. Make recommendations for instructional technology improvements to the Provost
Perform budget planning, recruiting, hiring, staff development, and evaluation.
Supervise six full-time staff who report directly to the director of iTEC, as well as several part-time employees work in the iTEC computer labs, which are open to students.
Coordinate training for faculty on the integration of technology into the teaching/learning process
Oversee the successful launch of new technologies in multi-media, distance learning and web-based instruction.
Provide a range of educational opportunities for faculty and students, including training in ePortfolios, and Blackboard, and assist faculty with implementation of best practices for course design and instruction using technology, such as the creation of instructional videos, and course web sites.
Coordinate workshops for students on the use of this technology in their learning is also provided.
Chair the Online Learning Advisory Council (OLAC), which reports directly to the Provost, and develops new initiatives and evaluation methods to assesses the pedagogical benefits associated with the use of technology to support online teaching and learning objectives
Work with the University to implement University-led initiatives at the College, such as the administration and support for Blackboard, the University's course management system
Respond to ongoing challenges and innovations that arise in this area
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of eight (8) years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred. Excellent administrative skills, prior experience managing the daily operations of a computer lab, five (5) or more years experience providing technology support in an education setting, and planning, budgeting, and faculty development expertise are highly desirable.

May serve as Deputy to a Chief Information Officer or other technology executive
Performs related duties as assigned.
