POSITION DETAILS
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees. The campus is located in the vibrant Brooklyn Tech triangle, offering easy access to public transportation and a multitude of cultural activities.
The college is soliciting applications from forward-thinking candidates with excellent administrative skills and a strong background in educational technology to serve as the Director of Instructional Technology and the Technology Enhancement Centers (iTEC). Reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director oversees the college-wide educational technology needs of the academic departments, serving both faculty and students. The director provides leadership and coordinates training for faculty on the integration of technology into the teaching/learning process, and oversees the successful launch of new technologies in multi-media, distance learning and web-based instruction. The position also supports faculty in the use of technology-enhanced pedagogies to improve teaching and learning. Coordination of workshops for students on the use of this technology in their learning is also provided.
Six full-time staff report directly to the director of iTEC, and several part-time employees work in the iTEC computer labs, which are open to students, and may be used for testing. Smaller computer rooms can be reserved for workshops, and house the college’s Writing Center. The director oversees services, which include management, administration and support for the University's course management system, as well as ePortfolios on OpenLab and other innovative technologies which support accessibility and security. Operations include technology support, budget planning and administration, regular assessment of services, optimization of resources and facilities to meet the college’s needs as well as oversight of the iTEC labs. Personnel operations include planning, recruiting, hiring, supervision, scheduling, staff development and evaluation.
Other duties include but are not limited to the following:
Chair the Online Learning Advisory Council (OLAC), which reports directly to the Provost, and develop new initiatives and evaluation methods to assess the pedagogical benefits associated with the use of technology to support online teaching and learning objectives.
Make recommendations for instructional technology improvements to the Provost.
Provide a range of educational opportunities for faculty and students, including training in ePortfolios and Learning Management Systems.
Assist faculty with implementation of best practices for course design and instruction using technology, such as the creation of instructional videos, and course web sites.
Work with the University to implement University-led initiatives at the College, such as the administration and support for the University's course management system.
Directly supervise six full-time staff and oversee several part-time staff.
Maintain the departmental Web site.
Respond to ongoing challenges and innovations that arise.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree strongly preferred
Five years of prior experience in computer applications in a college or university setting
Strong hands-on computer skills, and expertise in planning, budgeting and faculty development

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.
