CUNY EOC Academic Advisor - Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center in Brooklyn, New York
The State University of New York, Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center, provides tuition free academic and workforce development training to eligible New York State residents, providing a pathway to lifelong learning, college access and economic self-sufficiency.
Under supervision of the Student Services Director or designee, and located in the Advisement Center, the Student Advisor for the College Connections Initiative advises students in the College Preparation program and assists students in career and academic programs to connect to a college pathway.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide academic and career advisement to students enrolled in the College Preparation program
Advise students enrolled in non-college prep programs on preparing and planning for college
Provide workshops and seminars on the college application process
Assist with planning for college fairs, college tours, etc.
Review program requirements and EOC policies and procedures with applicants and students in individual or group settings
Assist students with developing life skills, setting educational goals and reviewing career options
Work closely with instructors and other staff to support the development of student success strategies
Maintain student files, databases and records. Track student placement and prepare activity reports
Assist with EOC outreach and provide College Connections information to community
Work a flexible schedule – day and evening hours
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience advising non-traditional students and those with academic deficits and life challenges.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills and a customer-service orientation
Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and external constituents.
Proficiency in MS Office, and experience with academic or career advising software
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides academic advisement and planning services to a diverse student population within an Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).
Assists students with clarifying values and goals, discussing educational options, requirements, policies and procedures; offers academic and personal support
Provides effective and timely referrals to other support services
Monitors and evaluates student progress
Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses
May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$39,282 to $51,153. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
