CUNY EOC Student Services Manager/Career Resources - Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center in Brooklyn, New York

POSITION DETAILS

The State University of New York, Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC), provides tuition free academic and workforce development training to eligible New York State residents, providing a pathway to lifelong learning, college access and economic self-sufficiency.

Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the EOC Student Services Manager/Career Resources is responsible for overseeing the delivery of career and professional development opportunities to prepare EOC students to enter the workforce. Responsibilities include managing the assessment and outcomes of career advisement and job placement activities for all BEOC students. He/she may also serve as the chief student services officer in the absence of the Director. The selected candidate will need to work a flexible schedule which includes day and evening hours.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the Office, including supervising staff activities relating to job preparation, job placement, internships, and career fairs, and evaluating professional and administrative support staff

  • Manage the implementation of career readiness and professional development strategies for students

  • Work with faculty and administration to develop and implement career planning for all students

  • Engage students in creative and innovate ways to prepare them for career pathways

  • Develop new employer relationships and opportunities for collaboration, including acting as liaison between the EOC and various public agencies and programs.

  • Manage relationships with students, alumni and employers

  • Manage data collection, analysis and reporting on student outcomes and make recommendations for improvements and enhancements

  • Assist in managing the utilization of technology to engage students and employers

  • Participate in inter-departmental programs to promote and increase student success and retention

  • Manage outreach to alumni, engaging them in programs and events

  • Assist in developing materials to promote successful student outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in education, human resources, human services or related field preferred

  • Previous experience as a recruiter, HR specialist, job developer or career or internship coordinator

  • Proficiency using web-based resources and social media to communicate with students

  • Demonstrated knowledge of assessment methods and use of data in planning

  • Experience in creating alumni networks

  • Proficiency in MS Office

  • Knowledge of Banner student information system a plus

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student-related programs at an Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).

  • Oversees a variety of student programs for the EOC, such as community outreach, orientation, admissions, testing, registration, student activities, and job placement

  • Assists senior management in analyzing student needs and developing student service plans, implementing initiatives and assessing performance

  • Develops relationships with college departments, university groups and outside agencies and community organizations to support and enhance student services

  • Collects, analyzes and reports on student program activities, participation, and outcomes

  • May supervise professional and/or clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned
