POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Financial Aid, the Federal Pell & Systems Specialist is responsible for administering the federal Pell Grant Program including, the processing of ISIRs, disbursement, and

reconciliation to ensure compliance with Federal regulations and CUNY policies. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and resolving systems (CUNYfirst), CUNY’s or the Colleges document submittal portals, and verification, or any other systems related problems, and serves liaison to Computer Information Systems CIS). The Specialist collaborates with other units in the Business Office and Enrollment Management division and functions as liaison between City Tech, CUNY, Central Financial Aid Office and Office of Budget and Fiscal Management.

The Financial Aid Specialist's responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administer the Federal Pell Program including ISIR processing, certification of payments, and reconciliation.

  • Research and resolve CUNYfirst or other systems related problems.

  • Assist with the certification of Pell book advance payments.

  • Research and reconcile student financial aid Pell payment/Merit Scholarship related issues, and follow- up on inquiries from various offices including the Office of Fiscal Management and Budges pertaining to unclaimed Title IV Checks and disbursement.

  • Collect and distribute students’ files (submitted via CUNY’s portal, the College’s designated contractor, or other means).

  • Represent the financial aid office at various student financial aid systems meeting/training within the college and throughout the University.

  • Assist in staff training and the development of policies and procedures

  • Assist in providing advisement to students if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate is knowledgeable of the University’s financial aid payroll systems, federal, state, and city financial assistance regulations, the schools’ admission’s and registrar’s policies and procedure, and CUNYfirst.

  • The ideal candidate has excellent planning, organizing, coordinating, problem solving, and supervisory skills as well as good oral and written communication skills.

  • The ideal candidate is a team player with excellent negotiating skills and is student centered with a strong commitment to service.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.

  • Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs

  • Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds

  • Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility

  • May review and reconcile student payroll processing

  • Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly

  • Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes

  • Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
