The Office of Student Life and Development at City Tech supports the mission of the College through the intentional design and implementation of developmental activities, experiences, and services that foster a supportive, challenging and nurturing environment. Student Life provides opportunities for City Tech students to engage in purposeful and transformative learning to prepare them to be active learners, successful graduates, and engaged global citizens. The Office of Student Life and Development at City Tech welcomes esumes for the position of International Student Advisor.
Reporting to the Student Life and Development Manager, the International Student Advisor will:
Advise new and continuing international students on immigration procedures, registration, change of status, leave of absence, and other issues; facilitates immigration paperwork and data processing
Process information in related systems such as SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Immigration System) and CUNYfirst related to student activities; assists in maintaining student records and creating related reports
Maintain up-to-date information on regulations, policies, and practices (internal and external) about international students
Assist in organizing orientation programs, cross-cultural events, and informational workshops
Support the logistics and implementation of new student orientation programming, including assisting in the recruitment, hiring, and training of student leaders, management of program websites and communications, and the overall transition experience for a diverse population of students.
Participate in developing and coordinating educational, cultural programming, events, and workshops to support student engagement of specific groups such as first-year students and underrepresented peoples.
Assist in the supervision of student workers assigned to aid with peer-to-peer support initiatives.
-Collaborate in defining content strategies for student engagement platforms.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience working in a college setting focused on providing services to students
Familiarity with processes governing international students and the SEVIS system
Ability to communicate clearly both one-on-one and to groups
Can work independently and take initiative, as well as collaboratively in offering creative solutions to joint department efforts
Strong work ethic
