GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.

Work tasks include as:

-Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment

-Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems

-Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Office of Information Technology Services supports all computing needs of the Brooklyn College community. Our primary objective is to align planning and processes to effectively and efficiently support, maintain and develop computing resources for the college.

Under direct supervision and direction of ITS staff, the IT Support Assistant (Hourly) will act as a Helpdesk technical specialist and will provide primary computer support to our campus community. The ITSA (H) will assist with tasks listed below:

  • Delivers and setup computers for computer labs and offices

  • Assist with computer connectivity issues to campus network and WiFi.

  • Assist with setup, installation & maintenance of student computer labs and assists lab managers with configuration and troubleshooting of phone, tablet and laptop devices for walk-in clients.

  • Assists with ITS pickups and deliveries across campus.

  • Assists with receiving and storage of vendor deliveries.

  • Assist ITS staff as requested.

  • Answers phone calls and emails and assists with basic administrative support.

  • Data entry into ITS systems.

  • This position requires heavy lifting and moving of computer equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using Helpdesk ticketing systems.

  • A+ Certification and/or Apple certification a plus.

  • Must be able to work rotating shift schedules including nights and/or weekends.

COMPENSATION

New Hire: $21.30/hour*

Incumbent: $24.08/hour

*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
