FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn which offers 60 associate and baccalaureate degrees. The Architectural Technology Department at City Tech invites applications for a lecturer position to begin spring or fall 2023. This is a full-time faculty position which leads to a certificate of continuous employment.

The Department of Architectural Technology offers an AAS and BTech in Architectural Technology and a BARCH in Architecture. We are in the process of seeking accreditation by NAAB. Our curriculum prepares students for the 21st century workplace, with a focus on design and building technology. City Tech is committed to maintaining up-to-date technologies, state-of-the-art computer and fabrication labs, and the latest software and tools utilized in the field. We are actively seeking to expand opportunities for hands-on field and office experience, and service learning. The curriculum of our AAS degree is grounded in structured sequences for design foundations, visual studies, and building technology, with additional courses in history, site planning, and environmental and structural systems. An additional two years of studies leads to the 4-year Bachelor of Technology degree, which includes intensive studios in design and building technology, and electives that support specialized areas of study, including advanced construction technologies and materials, building information modeling, advanced computation and fabrication, building performance and sustainable design, and existing building technologies. Students are accepted into the BARCH, a 5-year program, as freshmen or after 3-years of study, and continue for an additional two years.

Our 18 full-time faculty members are practicing, licensed professionals, and our 60+ part-time instructional staff hold prominent positions in city agencies and in the region’s leading private firms. Forty (40) full- and part-time technical staff support instruction and department operations. Our graduates are in high demand, and our faculty and students have received recognition in local, national and international venues.

The position requires a commitment to teaching excellence, sustained service to the department, college and university, and regular involvement, as assigned, in academic advisement, recruitment efforts, assessment and accreditation, and self-governance. The Lecturer will function collaboratively in department level efforts, playing an active role in the creation, development, and assessment of department curricula and maintaining the academic vitality of the department. Contributions to committee work is expected, as well as other department, college, and/or university service. Day, evening, and weekend teaching and department duties may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a history of professional practice.

  • Higher education teaching experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of, and expertise in Architectural Technology: Building Sciences & Detailing, Computation & Fabrication, Sustainability or Preservation Technology are of interest to the department.

  • Ability to support the engagement and learning of a diverse student body.

  • Ability to engage in program development, recruitment, and student advisement.

Vaccine Requirement

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to their campus.

COMPENSATION

$69.665 - $88,998
