FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in the Department of Biology with a starting date in August 2019.
The successful candidate is expected to:
Serve as Course Coordinator and Lead Instructor for the Biology 1010 course
Work with faculty and the scientific community to continuously update course content and delivery methods
Train and oversee the pedagogy of the Bio 1010 laboratory instructors
Develop and implement assessment procedures, to continuously monitor the efficacy of our methods and learning outcomes.
Lecturer would also be welcome to develop new courses in their area of expertise (e.g., immunology, cancer biology, genetics, environmental science) and participate at all levels in Departmental functions.
The Department of Biology offers a non-major’s course in Biology, Biol 1010: Biology for Today’s World which serves over 1,000 students per year. The course is designed with the goal of not only disseminating scientific information, but also train students to think critically in our rapidly advancing society. We combine in-class lectures and online lectures with the laboratory component taking place in a virtual environment online. We offer open laboratories where students meet in person with laboratory instructors who can aid them in their laboratory and lecture assignments (usually 5-10 instructors depending on the size of the lecture). We are dedicated to training all students in Scientific Literacy, whether they enter a STEM field or not. We want our students to become engaged and active in society on all levels.

MSc degree. In Biology or related field from an accredited institution
Ability to teach undergraduate or graduate courses, including General Biology.
Ph.D. in Biology or related field from an accredited institution.
Experience in teaching and organizing undergraduate or graduate courses, including General Biology.
Salary commensurate with experience and credentials. All appointments are subject to financial availability.
