CUNY Lecturer - Community Health in Brooklyn, New York

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) at Kingsborough Community College of The City University of New York invites applications for a full-time position as a Lecturer in Community Health beginning in August 2018. The successful candidate will be a career educator who will teach face-to-face, hybrid and fully online courses in introductory Community Health and wellness, plus topical courses in health (i.e., sexuality, nutrition, substance use and abuse, men’s and women’s health issues). The candidate will assist program directors, fellow faculty members, and program/department staff in developing curriculum, course scheduling and take a leading role in recruitment, advisement, development of academic program and departmental extracurricular events and outreach to the outside community, which could be high schools or community centers.

Full-time lecturers are expected to perform the following duties:

  • Fulfill teaching and administrative duties equivalent to 27 hours per academic year;

  • Coordinate multi-section courses (including online sections);

  • Serve on relevant departmental and college-wide committees;

  • Participate in faculty development opportunities; and,

  • Advise students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Health Education, Health Service Administration, or similar discipline at the time of appointment with a minimum of five years of teaching experience at the college level;

  • Experience with coordinating and delivering online and face-to-face training to health care workers;

  • Knowledge of community health pedagogy as well as knowledge of current health services trends and healthcare workforce training; and,

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and deliver workforce training in health coaching, specifically covering motivational interviewing, patient engagement techniques, and coordination of health services for diverse client/patient populations.

COMPENSATION

$45,750 - $82,709. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
