FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college offering 60 associate and bachelor’s degree programs in downtown Brooklyn. The English Department at City Tech invites applications for two (2) Lecturer positions to begin Spring or Fall 2023. These are full-time faculty positions that lead to certificates of continuous employment.

The successful candidates will join an English Department that offers a Bachelor of Science in Professional and Technical Writing, an interdisciplinary academic minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies, and a wide range of courses in composition, English as a Second or Other Language, literature, and creative writing.

Lecturers are expected to be committed to excellence in teaching and contribute to the English Department, the School of Arts and Sciences, the College, and the University, in service of their missions. Service expectations include working collaboratively to support advisement, recruitment, retention, assessment, curricular development and improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.A., M.S. or Ph.D. in English, applied linguistics, digital humanities, multi-ethnic studies, and/or gender and sexuality studies preferred.

  • It is preferred that candidates have three or more years of experience teaching first-year writing at the college level.

  • Candidates with background and experience in first-year writing are encouraged to apply, as are those with experience teaching ESOL, applied linguistics, digital humanities, multi-ethnic studies, and/or gender and sexuality studies.

  • Candidates with experience teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and linguistic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

  • Candidates with knowledge of contemporary composition, student-centered pedagogy, and multilingual pedagogy are encouraged to apply.

Vaccine Requirement

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

$69.665 - $88,998
