The Scheduling Testing Advisement Registration (STAR) Center at City Tech welcomes applications for two (2) Onboarding Senior Advisor positions to join our team. The STAR Center provides academic information and centralized advising services to all undergraduate student, clarifying degree requirements and assisting with academic program planning. Making information available to students to provide a clear understanding of the academic requirements that impact their selection of programs and courses, leading to timely receipt of an associate and/or baccalaureate degree, is one of the STAR Center’s primary roles.
With some combination of in-person, hybrid and online learning and engagement modalities a post-pandemic reality, the need for dedicated personnel to support student retention is of paramount importance. The Onboarding Senior Advisors are responsible for executing and actively managing onboarding activities for new students who have confirmed their offer of admissions throughout their first semester, serving as a key liaison between the STAR Center and the Admissions Office, Transfer Services Center and the Office of Student Life and Development. As essential members of the STAR Center team, the Onboarding Senior Advisors will anticipate and define student problems, troubleshoot issues, and develop and maintain a broad knowledge base of college programs and student services.
The Onboarding Senior Advisor wiil report to the Director of the STAR unit. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties will inlcude:
Advising prospective, new, continuing, and undeclared students regarding registration, proficiency standards, permits, Math Start, CUNY Start, CUNY Language Emersion Program (CLIP), and First Year Programs (FYP); coordinating any additional support services students may require such as the Learning Center, Counseling Services Center, and any other special accommodations necessary.
Assisting students with navigating the course registration process. Meeting in-person and virtually with new students for course registration and utilize Schedule Builder, DegreeWorks, and Financial Aid Eligibility & Certification Tracking System (FACTS); facilitating cross-registration with other departments as needed..
Regularly meeting with first-year students to identify, discuss, and remedy any current or future potential challenges; providing ongoing, systematic engagement with students via meetings, calls, texting, and email.
Creating and maintaining departmental student database; reviewing, troubleshooting, and approving degree progress reports for the undeclared population of students.
Facilitating summer orientation sessions for first year, transfer, and unique student populations Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge Program (SEEK), CUNY EDGE, and Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP).
Coordinating and/or attending special programs and events, including recruitment events (high school fairs, charity-based organizations, and community colleges).
Hiring and supervising part-time advisors.
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Master’s Degree and 3-5 years of customer service experience is preferred.
Knowledge of CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, Schedule Builder, EAB Navigate, Signal Vine, and Video Conferencing Platforms (Zoom, WebEx).
Experience with MS Office Products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Teams).
Strong presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to work and interact effectively, collaboratively, and cooperatively with a diverse community of learners, students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to interpret data and trends, and to present information effectively.
Detail-oriented and ability to multitask and meet deadlines while working in a team environment.
Applicant must be able and willing to continuously synthesize data, provide data analytics, and adapt well to constant change.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students
Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses
Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements
Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits
Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines
Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling
Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses
May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed
May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling
May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff
Performs related duties as assigned.
