CUNY Student Athletics Information Specialist in Brooklyn, New York

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Director of Athletics & Intramurals, the Student Athletics Information Specialist administers all aspects of media and sports information, statistics and promotion published in online and print media relating to the college’s 14 intercollegiate sports. The Specialist provides promotional and statistical coverage of intercollegiate athletics and intramurals. The sports are Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Woman’s Cross-Country, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, Men’s and Women’s Volleyball and Co-ed Cheerleading.

Typical duties include:

  • Manage day-to-day operation of sports information including writing press releases, game stories, feature articles and Athletic Department Newsletters, game notes for media, media guides, game programs, and sports schedules with the goal of heightening the profile and reputation of Medgar Evers College Athletics.

  • Update and maintain the athletics website (www.mecathletics.com) & all Social Media Platforms.

  • Organizing Medgar Evers College Intramurals program.

  • Gather, maintain and post NCAA required statistics to Athletics website and NCAA website; record statistical plays as events happen, prepare final stats for league records, serve as scorekeeper, entering computer data, preparing final and mid-game summary reports, etc.

  • Keep up to date on changes in statistical scoring rules

  • Abide by and enforce the rules and regulations established by Medgar Evers College, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

  • Serve as an Athletics & Intramurals Department liaison to the Office of Communications and Marketing. Collaborate regarding posters, athletic recruiting materials and other athletic department printed material.

  • Assists with special events, photo day, health and wellness program promotion, and fundraising activities.

  • Work with Director of Compliance to maintain up-to-date roster information

  • Supervise support staff, and coordinate hiring of interns and training.

  • Hire part-time staff to cover various game management functions as required for each sporting event, such as public address announcers, music, scoreboard, live streaming

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience with Stat Crew sports software preferred.

  • Experience streaming games live via the internet a plus.

  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite

  • Prior experience working in sports information office or media relations office is preferred.

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends, depending on the season.

  • Excellent writing skills, strong editing and communication skills.
