POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College is seeking to fill three (3) full-time Student Psychological Counselor positions - Social Workers and Psychologists. Reporting to the Director of Personal Counseling, the Student Psychological Counselors will provide in person and remote/virtual counseling to a diverse student population via telephone and video conferencing tools such as Zoom. Applicants should have expertise in one or several areas:
Oppression Trauma: Develop and implement specialized programming and services related to oppression, racial, immigration and related traumatic experiences.
Bereavement: Develop and implement specialized programming and services related to bereavement and loss, especially related to pandemic impact, including loss of family and friends, job loss, life and social support disruptions.
Substance Use Harm Reduction: Develop and implement specialized programming and services related to substance use (and other addictive, compulsive behavior) harm reduction.
Risk Management : Assist in overseeing the treatment and managing of clients with the most serious clinical risk; developing programs to identify and address serious clinical risk.
In-person and remote (currently 30 percent) work.
Vaccine Mandate
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs is preferred or a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling is required.
A New York State License as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling) is also required.
Experience:
Five+ years of related experience in social work, psychology, or mental health counseling. To meet the supervised experience requirement as a licensed Mental Health Counselor, you must have completed at least 3,000 clock hours providing Mental Health Counseling. The supervised experience must be obtained after completion of the master’s degree program required for licensure.
For Psychologist position:
New York State psychologist license required
Ability to serve as primary clinical supervisor to psychology doctoral trainees
Preferred for All Positions
Experience providing advocacy and counseling to a diverse population
Experience with psychodynamic and structured (CBT) approaches to counselling
Experience with specialty activities specified
Experience providing clinical supervision to trainees
Experience with group psychotherapy
Experience with remote counseling
New York State psychologist license preferred for Social Worker position
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides student counseling services as a member of a team.
Provides psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students
Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations
Performs intake and assessment for personal counseling services
Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops
Participates in recommending improvements that will impact the counseling center's effectiveness
Performs related duties as assigned.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
