GENERAL DUTIES

  • Under supervision, test, maintains, repairs and replaces various types of thermostats and related equipment used for the control of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; performs related work.

  • Installs tubing, pipe and fittings in connection with various types of thermostats and related equipment used for the control of heating, ventilating and air conditioning.

  • Checks existing control installations to determine nature and cause of trouble and makes necessary repairs and/or adjustments.

  • Uses pneumatic and/or electrical devices to check control installations.

  • Sets and calibrates thermostats on walls and fixtures.

  • Requisitions parts as required.

  • Supervises assigned personnel as required.

  • Keeps work records.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Brooklyn College seeks to hire a Thermostat Repairer to work out of the Heating Plant and perform campus wide Controls System Repairs in all campus buildings as needed. The Thermostat Repairer will report to the Senior Stationary Engineer.

Standard work hours are 7:00am - 2:30pm. Currently due to COVID-19 social distancing mandates, the shift start times alternate every other week between 6:00am - 1:30pm and 7:00am - 2:30pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a thermostat repairer acquired within the last ten years; OR

  2. At least three years of experience as described in 1 above and either sufficient experience in the thermostat repairing field as a helper or apprentice, or sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months

of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of the above helper or apprenticeship experience or training.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Knowledge/Experience in use of computers - Able to utilize Microsoft Windows programs like Excel, Word and Outlook.

  2. Knowledge/Experience in the reading of electrical control Schematics as necessary to troubleshoot DDC/BMS controls issues.

  3. Experience developing material lists necessary for HVAC repairs and acquiring computerized quotes of said material/services from a qualified provider.

  4. Knowledge/Experience in service and repair of controls and systems such as:

a. Honeywell EBI, Johnson Controls FX and American Auto Matrix DDC (Direct Digital Controls)/BMS (Building Management System) systems.

b. High pressure Steam Reducing Stations controls including replacement of diaphragms, Pilot positions and control valves.

c. HVAC controls components such as electromechanical/Pneumatic DDC/BMS controls, VAV boxes, VDF drives, Reheat control valves and low voltage controls.

  1. Ability to utilize Multi meter to test for line and low voltage electrical presence as necessary to perform troubleshooting of systems and safe off systems to work.

$96,447
