POSITION DETAILS

Kingsborough Community College is seeking a Transfer Manager, reporting to the Director, to coordinateevents and programming with four-year institutions, serve as the transfer liaison to the Advisement Academies and special programs and troubleshoot student issues dealing with transfer admission. He or she will also assist with design and implantation of incorporating a continuum advisement approach from career exploration through transfer planning and application.

Kingsborough Community College was founded in 1963 and is one of 23 campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY) system and offers liberal arts education, as well as career training programs.Kingsborough has been named one of the leading community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Transfer Manager’s duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Develop and facilitate transfer workshops and information sessions for current students

  • Coordinate and advertise events and programming that provide students with opportunities to meet four-year college representatives, including Transfer Fairs, virtual visits, on the spot admissions and other events

  • Collaborate with Registrar and assist students through reverse transfer

  • Create and maintain transfer event tracking system, as well as utilize STARFISH to document all student interactions

  • Serve as transfer out liaison to advising staff, special programs and the Advisement Academies, to help expand Academic Advisors’ transfer knowledge and ensure that students receive consistent and accurate advice on transfer related matters

  • Create and implement communication plans that promotes proactive advisor/student discussions around career exploration and transfer planning

  • Partners with Career Services to provide on-going Advisor workshops that will help support student discussions between majors and careers

  • Identifies and promotes scholarship opportunities available for students transferring to senior colleges, including the Kaplan Leadership Program

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of academic advisement and graduation requirements, as it pertains to transfer admission criteria; be knowledgeable of transfer advisement tools (i.e., CUNY Transfer Explorer, Degree Works, TWIF) and develop and implement trainings and resources for Advisors

  • Establish relationships with faculty and academic departments to coordinate transfer trainings for Advisors

  • Maintain the transfer website and update all events accordingly

  • Serve as a member and attend CUNY Transfer Council meetings

  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs to publicize articulation agreements to students, advisors and faculty; Collaborate with Admissions on the promotion of the articulation agreements to potential students

  • Maintain effective working relationships and communications with four-year college and university transfer representatives

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate discipline (ex. higher education, counseling, public administration)

  • Experience with community college student transition to 4-year institutions

  • Experience providing academic advisement/support leading to guiding students through transfer and scholarship application processes

  • Knowledge of and strong belief in holistic student support through a continuum advisement approach from career exploration through graduation and transfer planning

  • Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds

  • Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills

  • Experience developing and presenting workshops to students, staff and faculty

  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of program activities and development of data to be used for program assessment

  • Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Access and Excel); and aptitude to learn new systems as needed

  • Ability to maintain ongoing knowledge of academic curricula and college policies

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evening and weekend hours

  • Strong networking, relationship building and maintenance skills

  • Knowledge of CUNYFirst (PeopleSoft) and Starfish, helpful

  • Develops, recommends, and implements program goals and objectives to meet students' specialized needs; coordinates delivery of services across multiple functions, developing new programs and activities as needed

  • Advocates for students, and partners with academic and student support functions to ensure students effectively utilize programs and services; collaborates with counselors, mentors, and others assisting students

  • Maintains ongoing communications with targeted student population as well as department management, advisory groups, and external organizations

  • Collects data for, analyzes, and reports on activities and outcomes

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
