Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to the intellectual and personal growth of its students. ASAP was designed to help motivated students earn an Associate degree with a goal of graduating at least 50% of students within three years.

ASAP emphasizes enriched academic, financial and personal support including comprehensive and personalized advisement, career counseling, tutoring, tuition waivers, MTA MetroCards and support for textbook cost.

Reporting to the Director of Advisement, the Associate Director is responsible for supervising advisement teams, supporting programming and other academic initiatives. In addition to the responsibilities in the CUNY title overview, the Associate Director will supervise a team responsible for the advisement of approximately 5,600 students.


In addition to the CUNY TItle Overview, and as a member of the Director's team you are responsible for the day-to-day supervision of approximately 40 academic advisors.

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of up to 15 advisors.

  • Track student graduation and academic progress.

  • Track the completion of advisor monthly meeting requirements.

  • Support the supervision of Team Leads.

  • Coordinate the summer and winter student registration process.

  • Support the coordination of bi-annual class meetings and semester group advisement sessions.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director for Recruitment and Retention to promote recruitment registration, academic support services, student tracking, professional development, financial aid requirements and other engagement opportunities.

  • Serve as liaison between advisors and the College community.


Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in an appropriate discipline and six years related experience.

  • Experience supervising or leading staff.

  • A strong understanding of students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability working independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong project management and facilitation skills.

  • The ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activity.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency managing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines with changing priorities.

  • Flexibility working with faculty, administrators, students and external stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Access and Excel) with an aptitude to learn new systems as needed.

  • The ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.


Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Reporting to the ASAP Director, the ASAP Manager is responsible for the daily administration of ASAP program activities.

  • Establishes semester block programs and manages and schedules all other academic support activities such as tutoring and workshops

  • Supervises planning and implementation of ASAP summer programming, including summer course taking, workshops, and the ASAP summer institute, and other special student activities

  • Assists Financial Aid, Registrar, and Bursar in evaluating student eligibility, finalizing registration, and verifying tuition charges

  • Assists the ASAP Director with required reporting and collaboration with other college units

  • Monitors and assesses data reports on a regular basis to ensure movement towards ASAP success benchmarks and to determine student support needs

  • Oversees advisement and delivery of comprehensive support services to ASAP students

  • Supervises professional and support staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned

Salary: $71,723 - $84,678
