POSITION DETAILS

Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to the intellectual and personal growth of its students. The College bridges the economic and education opportunity gap for students, more than half of whom are the first in their families to attend college.

ASAP was designed to help motivated students earn an Associate degree with a goal of graduating at least 50% of students within three years. The program emphasizes enriched academic, financial and personal supports including comprehensive and personalized advisement, career counseling, tutoring, tuition waivers, MTA Metro Cards and additional financial assistance to support textbook cost.

Reporting to the Executive Director for Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), the Director of Advisement is responsible for the supervision of all advisement and advisement programming for over 5600 ASAP students.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and provide leadership, supervision and planning to the ASAP Advisement team of approximately 40 individuals.

  • Develop short- and long-term strategic objectives for ASAP advisement.

  • Supervise associate directors responsible for supporting the academic advisors.

  • Develop a comprehensive assessment plan to monitor and strengthen advisement.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Recruitment and Retention and the Coordination of Operations to support student development and academic momentum.

  • Guide the promotion of student awareness of support services and institutional policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with academic departments and other service areas to enhance students’ understanding of degree requirements and transfer opportunities.

  • Guide the coordination and development of program-wide academic advising activities.

  • Responsible for guiding the training for advisors and associate directors.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen retention, momentum and graduation efforts.

  • Responsible for advisement reports and make recommendations to the Executive Director regarding advisement goals and deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in an appropriate discipline and eight years related experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, counseling or related fields.

  • Eight years of experience working with undergraduate students in an academic setting or related field.

  • Direct advising experience with one or more of the following student populations: first-time freshmen, transfer students, students with disabilities and/or academically at-risk students.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of CUNY technical applications.

  • Management experience and the ability to effectively interact with diverse faculty, staff and student populations.

Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. The Director oversees all activities related to ASAP and represents the College's ASAP program within and outside the College.

  • Develops and implements policy to meet the Program's mission, collaborating with other College units

  • Administers a comprehensive portfolio of services, and assesses the various components of the ASAP program to improve services to students

  • Provides a highly-supportive environment by overseeing staff such as advisors and job developers and by developing relevant programs, workshops, and activities

  • Manages tracking, reporting, and analysis of outcomes data, and systems to track and manage individual students' progress

  • Manages staff and budget consistent with program goals

  • Performs related duties as assigned

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary $75,971 - $104,461
