The Center for Career Preparation and Partnerships (CCPP) leads Guttman’s innovative and proactive model for career preparation embedded in the curriculum, ensuring that all students receive the career development needed to successfully transfer to baccalaureate-granting institutions and plan for gainful employment and fulfilling careers. The Academic Internship Manager of the Center for Career Preparation engages in ongoing communication with CCPP’s three principal stakeholders

– the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Student Engagement, and the Office of the President – to support the identification and maintenance of priority partnership opportunities aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of both the Center and the College.

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Career Preparation and Partnerships, the Academic Internship Manager will be responsible for overseeing internships and similar career-focused curricular programs in STEM and for supporting the related recruitment and relationships with a host of partners from all sectors. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Planning, the Academic Internship Manager will also be responsible for developing partner support for curricular career planning initiatives. This position will assist the Director and the Associate Dean with planning and design of relevant partnership initiatives related to the College’s strategic plan.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supports the Director of the Center for Career Preparation and Partnerships with the development and organization of student career exploration and growth across the college’s curriculum and co-curriculum, and fosters collaboration with city and university entities to support the CCPP mission.

  • Supports the Director with partnership development and the maintenance of a set of partners needed to meet the academic and pre-professional needs of students.

  • Works in concert with the Director in the oversight of all programs to support students in building needed career competencies and skills identified on the Career Readiness Roadmap, as well as assisting students seeking part-time employment while matriculated.

  • Develops knowledge of labor market trends and assists the Director in designing new strategic partnerships to expand curricular and co-curricular career-focused experiential learning opportunities for Guttman students.

  • Designs, develops, and conducts programs to prepare students for internships, careers, and transfers in STEM.

  • Develops and implements industry-related events and credit bearing internships that are consistent with best practices, curricular outcomes, and academic program guidelines and policies.

  • Designs and manages internship and field placement experiences.

  • Plans, implements, and conducts internship-related workshops, presentations, and programs to educate students on internship preparation and the job search.

  • Acts as liaison between Guttman and partner organizations, managing ongoing relationships and monitoring the success of students' internship experiences.

  • Provides accurate data collection and reporting for student engagement in experiential learning opportunities (e.g., internships, volunteer, research, site visits/observations, and job shadowing.)

  • Collaborates with the Director in strategic planning, institutional grant activities involving career development and preparation, operational support, and evaluation for CCPP.

  • Represents the office in the absence of the Director and supervises part-time staff.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the tech industry and/or with serving STEM students and employers.

  • Experience with employer engagement and strategic partner recruitment (strong sales orientation required).

  • Experience designing and managing internship programs.

  • Progressive experience working with students providing career advising, internship placements, and counseling required.

  • Strong presentation, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to successfully work with and present to diverse audiences a must.

  • Strong work ethic, character and personal integrity, working with the utmost professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.

  • Detail oriented with strong writing, analytical, evaluative, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with linguistically, culturally, and academically diverse student populations, particularly underprepared high school or college students in an educational setting or program strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in a time-sensitive, dynamic, student-centered and responsive office preferred.

  • Flexibility to work some evening hours and occasional weekends preferred.


Manages College's academic internship program which provides career development opportunities and professional work experiences for students.

  • Develops and administers a comprehensive internship program based on students' field of study

  • Develops assessment tools to analyze and monitor student career development progress; recommends various enhancements to improve students experiences; and analyzes job market trends to determine solutions in response to market conditions

  • Administers the on-campus recruiting program for internships; initiates and maintains communications with employer sponsors; and schedules student interviews; creates and leads student career workshops

  • Provides faculty development related to internships and tracks credit-bearing internships

  • Collaborates with the other College offices to facilitate student outreach and connection with employers for professional development, internships and job opportunities

  • Cultivates relationships with alumni, faculty, administration and students to improve and increase internship offerings

  • May manage professional and/or clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
