Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Academic Success program, the Adelante! Academic Internship Specialist will be responsible for developing a comprehensive academic success and career preparation program for about 300 first- and second-year students in the Adelante! Program. In collaboration with the Associate Director of First Year Programs, staff at the Center for Career and Professional Development, and Adelante! faculty advisors, the Adelante! Academic Internship Specialist will create short micro-internships, as well as summer and semester-long internships, that engage and support Latinx communities. They will monitor students’ academic momentum and progress before and after the internship and contribute to creating an experiential learning program that supports institutional and program objectives and increases Latinx student engagement and success.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include:

  • Collaborate on the development of a comprehensive program of micro-internships, and linking it to summer or semester-long internships for about 300 students in the Adelante program

  • Fostering and developing community partnerships for student placements and creating projects that align with Adelante! program goals in collaboration with community partners

  • Assist with developing the schedule and promotion all Adelante! experiential learning opportunities offerings

  • Monitoring student academic progress and identifying the timing and nature of appropriate experiential learning opportunities for students

  • Recruit and interview students interested in participating in micro-internships and internships and support them from initial contact to final evaluation

  • Facilitate appropriate training on service-learning, professional skills, and ethics in community engagement

  • Provide individualized planning sessions as follow up or as needed

  • Perform site visits, ensure ongoing communication between sites and the College, and respond to evaluations and feedback to ensure mutual benefit for host sites and students

  • Review and provide feedback on non-discipline-related student work, including learning objectives and reflection papers

  • Participate in program assessments and evaluations as appropriate and communicate results to internal and external stakeholders

  • Assists with making recommendations for program improvement based on program assessment and evaluation results and best practices in community engagement and experiential education

This is a temporary position until June 30, 2023.

Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office, and this position is based in New York, NY.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.


  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience in creating and /or supervising experiential learning prorgams

  • Experience in an urban higher education setting, with special focus on the academic and career success of Latinx students.

  • The ability to work independently and carry out complex assignments with great attention to detail.

  • The ability to work collaboratively and coordinate with external partners.


Supports an academic internship program providing career development and professional work experience.

  • Acts as liaison between the College and employer sponsors, monitoring the success of students' internship experiences

  • Supervises student internships, assuring adherence to related College and governmental policies and regulations

  • Creates and conducts orientation sessions and workshops for students in the internship program; coordinates applications, interviews, and placement as part of overall student outreach

  • Provides faculty orientation and development related to internship programs

  • Implements and evaluates competencies and other success factors

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

$71,242 - $77,635.
