FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York seeks adjunct faculty with expertise in Statistics and Mathematics to teach during the Fall 1 2020 session – September 12 – December 20, 2020.

The newest community college in the CUNY system, Guttman is student-centered and committed to helping students reach their intellectual and professional goals. As a majority of Guttman students enroll directly out of high school, students primarily take general education and lower division courses for university transfer. The College’s instructional model combines high-impact educational practices that include learning communities, peer mentoring, experiential learning, use of ePortfolio, and full-time first year attendance. Adjunct faculty perform teaching and guidance duties related to the course descriptions below.

COURSE INFORMATION:

STATISTICS: This is a basic introductory statistics course. Students are taught to use estimation and precision and will learn the math study skills to assess and enhance their learning, their processes and their results. Students will use statistical software, graphing calculators, Microsoft Excel, MyMathLab and MyStatsLab to carry out a semester-long project involving data description and analysis. Students will work collaboratively and write using appropriate mathematical and non-mathematical language in order to successfully complete their project.

PRECALCULUS: This course is a comprehensive treatment of the conceptual and computational underpinnings of the calculus. Precalculus extends and deepens the functions-based approach introduced in College Algebra & Trigonometry. Verbal, numerical, and graphical representations are employed throughout to analyze functions. Graphing calculators and software such as Microsoft Excel and Desmos will be incorporated into all aspects of the course. Students will design and carry out a semester-long project involving advanced algebraic analysis of an issue attendant to New York City’s development over time.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.

For Adjunct Lecturer:

Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree. Experience teaching in a community college

COMPENSATION

Adjunct Lecturer: $74.48- $92.72/hr

Adjunct Assistant Professor: $84.48 - $100.27/hr

Adjunct Associate Professor: $91.08 - $111.61/hr

Adjunct Professor: $101.03 - $122.96/hr

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
