CUNY Admissions Coordinator in New York, New York


The Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (GSPHHP) is dedicated to providing cutting edge graduate degree programs and to identifying, designing, implementing and evaluating public health initiatives that promote social justice. The Admissions Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting the CUNY SPH Recruiter and the Director of Admissions in recruitment and admissions related tasks. The Coordinator will also work closely with the Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations to engage alumni in recruitment efforts. The position requires frequent travel within and outside of New York City to represent CUNY SPH at recruitment and alumni events.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in implementing CUNY SPH’s recruitment plans and programs in support of a strategy to identify, attract, admit and enroll a highly-qualified and diverse student body.

  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of CUNY's programs and degree requirements.

  • Coordinate and contribute to student recruiting activities such as group sessions and programs, direct recruiting, and outreach events at high schools and in the community.

  • Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring a strategic plan, objectives policies and procedures for recruitment and admissions.

  • Provide support in identifying sources of qualified applicants (such as academic departments, prospective employers, alumni, and community and professional organizations) and developing ties with them to promote their involvement in recruitment.

  • Maintain and assist in producing recruitment and admissions materials.

  • Preserve all aspects of an online admissions application system.

  • Maintain a tracking system for student inquiries, applicants and those admitted and enrolled.

  • Serve as the administrative contact person for prospective and accepted applicants.

  • Conduct on-campus and virtual information sessions for prospective students.

  • Coordinate administrative and logistical aspects of recruitment and admissions events, career services and alumni events, including room scheduling and reservation, materials, AV, food, staffing and other related needs.

  • Maintain and update the CUNY SPH Admissions website.

  • Track recruitment and admissions related expenditures in CUNYFirst (Oracle PeopleSoft).

  • Enter student immunization data into CUNYFirst (Oracle PeopleSoft).

  • Maintain incoming student’s official transcripts from undergraduate/graduate institutions.

  • Establish strong relationships with the alumni network group to engage alumni for recruitment events.

  • Partner with the Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations to attend all employers and alumni events to promote the school while providing logistical support.


Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of public health, higher educational administration, public administration or a related field.

  • Two years of relevant work experience, such as in student admissions, recruitment, student affairs, academic higher education or a related field.

  • Familiarity with CUNYfirst and online application systems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent planning, organizational and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and must be detailed oriented.


Coordinates projects and initiatives in the Admissions and/or Enrollment function.

  • Coordinates workshops, intake screenings, interviews and orientations for new students.

  • Assists students with registration and placement. Counsels prospective applicants on requirements and standards and provides general information on programs and services in person or by telephone, e-mail or letter. Conducts follow up with students from inquiry stage to registration.

  • Assists in conducting open house sessions and orientations. Conducts group sessions with prospective applicants to ensure that they are fully informed related to requirements and processes. Assists with direct recruiting at high schools, community colleges and community outreach events.

  • Represents the Admission Office to the college's internal and external communities as directed.

  • Maintains and updates program databases, lists and files to ensure completeness and accuracy.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
