CUNY Admissions Specialist (Admissions and Recruitment, Division of Student Affairs) in New York, New York


The Admissions Specialist will report to the Deputy Director of Admissions and Recruitment. In addition to the CUNY Title overview the Admissions Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:

  • In collaboration with alumni affairs, implement and maintain an alumni admissions program which seeks to engage graduates of Hunter College to assist with recruitment initiatives inside and outside New York State.

  • Write strategic communication content for prospective students, current applicants, and recently admitted students utilizing innovative techniques including but not limited to email, social media, video, web, and print.

  • Oversee all admissions social media initiatives including implementing campaigns, integration into marketing plan, and overseeing student/staff/faculty participation.

  • Create and execute a travel schedule to high schools, partner organizations, and community colleges within assigned territory inside and/or outside New York State.

  • Liaise with the undergraduate admissions processing team to assist with cross training in areas such as transfer credit evaluation.

  • Participate in planning and execution of all on-campus recruitment events.

  • Conduct on-campus information sessions and serves as in-house admissions counselor for prospective students and families visiting the office.

  • Supervise student workers that support recruitment events.

  • Makes data-informed decisions utilizing a CRM, institutional data, and current trends in higher education.

  • Seeks and retains knowledge of best industry practices in undergraduate admissions and recruitment and applies this knowledge to everyday duties.

  • Represent the Director and/or Deputy Director at meetings on campus and throughout the University.

  • Must be available to work evening /weekend hours.


Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.


  • Master’s Degree in higher education or related field

  • Demonstrates communication skills, writing and public speaking ability, events and local or regional travel planning, exemplary customer service skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with key constituents and prospects within assigned territory.

  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in the field of admissions, recruitment or enrollment management in general.

  • Active working knowledge of all of Hunter College’s programs and opportunities and the ability to present this information to prospective students in all formats.

  • Experience with social media outlets in regard to use in recruitment (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, etc. and Hobson's Connect or other enrollment management CRM.

  • Research and analytical skills are required in order to conduct demographic, geographic and historical research, as it pertains to Hunter College's applicant trends within assigned territory and market.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be a proactive member of the admissions team.

  • Valid driver’s license required.


Supervises activities in an operational unit supporting Admissions and/or Enrollment.

  • Oversees staff activities; plans and monitors employee scheduling and coverage and coordinates training

  • Serves as liaison to one or more departments providing student support services, such as Financial Aid

  • Coordinates selection process activities such as applications review, verification of information, and timely forwarding of data to other CUNY areas

  • Coordinates mailings and other communications

  • Monitors activity and reports on both transactions and outcomes

  • Completes projects to improve services and enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
