The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only

medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows

students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine

(MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition,

CSOM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals

licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. The mission of the CSOM is 1) to

provide access to medical and PA education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial

backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals

committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care

and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through

the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in

the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine).

The department plays a critical role in our mission-driven BS/MD program and Physician

Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting

extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the department

is centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, and


MCBS is searching for an experienced teacher of anatomy to direct, coordinate, and teach

anatomy, histology, and embryology to medical and physician assistant students. The hire will

be in the non-tenure track title of Clinical Professor. Clinical Professors are experienced

practitioners or teachers who hold a full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum

appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment. Successful candidates will

also have experience and a demonstrated commitment to building an equitable and diverse

scholarly and learning environment.

Individuals appointed as clinical professors – medical series are experienced practitioners or teachers in their professions or fields of expertise. The responsibilities of the position include teaching (including, in some cases, clinical instruction), and may include research. Clinical professors - medical series are full-time, non-tenure track positions.


Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral-level degree in a relevant discipline (anatomy, histology, and embryology).

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and appropriate advanced degree, professional licensure, registration, certification or such other qualifications as may be necessary for the satisfactory performance of his/her duties. Also, must have demonstrated satisfactory qualifies of personality and character, a record of achievements in his/her profession or field of expertise, and a willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of teaching experience is preferred.

  • Dissection-based gross anatomy training and teaching experience or general.

surgery experience is preferred.

  • Ability to cooperate with colleagues.

  • Experience in supporting student academic success, particularly for members of underrepresented groups.

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural and structural competence in an educational and work environment.
