CUNY Assistant, Associate or Full Medical Professor - Community Health and Social Medicine (4 positions) in New York, New York

Job Title: Assistant, Associate or Full Medical Professor - Community Health and Social Medicine (4 positions) Tenure Track

Job ID: 18944

Location: CUNY School of Medicine

Full/Part Time: Full-Time

Regular/Temporary: Regular

The CUNY School of Medicine is unique among the nation's medical schools in tailoring its curriculum towards preparation of students to become community-oriented primary care physicians who will serve in medically underserved areas. This mission is achieved through the School's intensive three-year sequence of courses in Community Health and Social Medicine (CHASM), which include field placements in community medicine in partnership with community-based health centers and health-related programs in underserved areas of New York City. Through field placements, course work, and independent study, CHASM provides students with the opportunity to go beyond traditional patient encounters and analyze and intervene in the health care of defined populations.

CHASM seeks applications for four tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Medical Professor rank to conduct research and teach courses in population health (e.g. epidemiology, social determinants of health, chronic disease burden, evidence-based medicine, etc.) to medical students. These individuals will be expected to establish and maintain extramurally funded research and teach in their area of expertise; engage in the development of population-health and/or clinical interdisciplinary research and grant writing, and provide professional service.

These positions represent excellent ground floor opportunities to contribute to the development and growth of a newly expanding mission based medical school and to shape the direction of academic initiatives in community and population health by building upon a program with a long and rich history of recruiting underrepresented populations into medicine, increasing medical services in underserved areas, and increasing the availability of primary care physicians. Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Cluster hire potential: The Department will strongly consider a team of tenured/tenure track positions as part of a cluster hire. All faculty hired as part of this cluster will have research interests that leverage the CSOM strengths, particularly those in population health and community oriented medicine (i.e. chronic disease epidemiology and prevention, social and behavioral intervention, health disparities and health outcomes among vulnerable populations).

M.D. or Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline required, as well as a record of significant achievement in field or profession of interest. Also required are the ability to teach successfully and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong methodological skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research and content expertise relevant to clinical and population health. Evidence of productivity in scholarship and evidence of strong potential for grant-funded research (depending on rank). A commitment to teaching and team-building within a mission base institution aimed at improving health for all.

We strongly encourage candidates with education and experience in chronic disease epidemiology, community/public health, health disparities, immigrant health, health economics, health policy, healthcare delivery or behavioral health to apply.

CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
