FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Music and Art Department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites highly motivated applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant, Associate or full Professor in Art History with a specialization in African and/or African Diaspora Art, starting Fall 2020.

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to the intellectual and personal growth of its students. The Department of Music and Art seeks a candidate with an earned Ph.D. in Art History with proven teaching experience. Primary responsibilities for Music and Art faculty include teaching a wide range of survey, capstone and area of expertise courses. Teaching experience in African and/or African Diaspora Art is preferred. Other teaching duties assigned according to the candidate’s interests and expertise.

Research and scholarly publication are expected for tenure and promotion. Other areas of responsibility include curriculum development, participate in departmental and college-wide activities and committees, such as grant writing, assessment, faculty development, mentoring student projects and academic advisement. The qualified candidate must be able to work in either the Day or Evening/Weekend program, as needed by the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Ph.D. in Art History in area(s) of expertise in African and/or African Diaspora Art or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Experience in teaching, three years at a two- or four-year college, is preferred.
