CUNY Assistant Director, ASAP Program Management (Academic Program Specialist) in New York, New York


The Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) at The City University of New York Office within the of Office of Academic Affairs, is seeking an Assistant Director for Program Management to support several strategic priorities that underpin ASAP and ACE expansion across CUNY.. The Assistant Director for Program Management will help to facilitate essential communication amongst key program areas across ASAP's nine partner colleges; streamline all formal reporting and communication practices; and help stratify program policy and operational guidelines to ensure program fidelity and the effective dissemination of high impact practices. The Assistant Director for Program Management will be an essential participant in key program priorities, including the integration of academic advisement and career development, as well as refining and disseminating student engagement and retention strategies. The position reports to the ASAP Director for Program Management and Administration.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, other key duties include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Collect, collate, and analyze key documents such as program process, procedural, and communications documents, report templates, and partner college plans.

  • Research and disseminate innovative practices related to academic support, retention, and engagement activities, inclusive of non­academic competencies and career development, convening and moderating various staff working groups as needed.

  • Assist with leading priority program initiatives including, but not limited to, career readiness skill development and youth/peer leadership.

  • Assist with staff needs assessment process and determine appropriate staff development opportunities.

  • Participate in vetting professional development opportunities for all ASAP partner college staff and ASAP replication partners.

  • Assist with developing assessment, evaluation and employee engagement tools, and maintaining a digital library of staff resources.

About the ASAP Program Founded in 2007, the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) assists students in earning associate degrees within three years by providing a range of financial, academic, and personal supports including comprehensive and personalized advisement, career counseling, tutoring, waivers for tuition and mandatory fees, MTA Metro Cards, and additional financial assistance to defray the cost of textbooks. ASAP also offers special class scheduling options to ensure that ASAP students get the classes they need, are in classes with other ASAP students, and attend classes in convenient blocks of time to accommodate their schedules. As students approach graduation, they receive special supports to help them transfer to 4-year colleges or transition into the workforce, depending on their goals. Based on outstanding program success to date, ASAP will expand to 25,000 students at nine CUNY partner colleges in academic year 2018-2019, and is being implemented as Accelerate, Complete, and Engage (ACE) in the baccalaureate setting at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. MINIMUM Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required. PREFERRED

  • Advanced degree in a directly related discipline.

  • Academic advisement experience in higher education.

  • Experience coordinating multi-site projects and facilitating cross-functional groups.

  • Broad understanding of public higher education systems and the needs of low-income urban college students.

  • Commitment to promoting college access and success in post-secondary education.

  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, presentation, negotiation and group facilitation skills.

  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills to devise and execute work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Proactive, flexible, and customer focused to work effectively, both independently and as a team member, in a fast-paced work environment with diverse members of the university community and external constituents.

  • Computer proficiency using administrative, financial or academic programs, systems or databases, plus online survey systems, project management and social media tools.


Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
