Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Director for Housing & Residence Life is responsible for working to create a positive residential community and administering housing applications to increase and maintain maximum occupancy of designated housing units on behalf of the College. The successful candidate will work with Building/Landlord staff to support students and facilitate the student lease process and collections for the academic year and serve as first point of contact for all leasing inquires.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely and maintain a positive relationship with Building staff which includes (but not limited to), ensuring judicial decisions are enforced, coordination of all emergency response including behavioral issues as set by Baruch policy and coordinate/consult on any res hall student programming specific to Baruch.

  • Maintain accurate housing roster/records of all residents assist Building staff with check-ins/check-outs events as well as collect deposits and/or fees associated with move-in (as necessary).

  • Work with the Offices of the Business & Finance and Bursar on housing budget, perform periodic reconciliation of revenue and expenditures, identify budgetary discrepancies, and address account delinquents.

  • Oversee lease commitments: Review daily leasing activity and provide recommendations for improvement; update and implement documents related to the leasing operation; lease and renew beds/apartments with current/prospective students; maintain documents and ensure documents are signed, assign rooms, etc.

  • In conjunction with the Building Staff, promote housing by conducting tours, pursue the targeted goals for each semester, perform follow-ups, and complete leasing paperwork with prospective residents.

  • Coordinate and attend all campus events related to campus housing, includingparticipating in recruitment and yield events, and consulting on print and digital housing-related marketing collateral.

  • Assist in the hiring of Baruch Residence Assistants if/when necessary.

  • Work with the Office of the Dean of Students and/or Campus Intervention Team to address student behaviors or emergencies that may include wellness checks, arrange transportation to medical facilities, etc.

  • Assist Leading First Year Seminar during the fall and spring semesters.


All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the tri-state area.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

Master’s degree and experience working in academic and/or residence life functions preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; should demonstrate proficiency in computer, database, and budgeting skills.


  • Develops and implements programming, services, and learning opportunities for students, promoting the personal development of a diverse student population.

  • Administers one or more student affairs programs, providing program management, assistance with policy development, supervision and training of all professional and support staff, budget monitoring, and report preparation

  • Serves as a resource to student groups and/or populations as a consultant and advocate for their concerns

  • Researches and stays current on higher education programs, trends, and issues with student impact

  • Produces workshops and materials to support student programs; manages on-line communities; develops on-line social networking activities, and develops and maintains multimedia content on program web sites

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
