The International Student Service Center (ISSC) coordinates administrative services and all immigration matters pertaining to International Students on the F-1 and J-1 student visas. The Center also offers information about study abroad programs and arranges programs of special interest to international students. The Assistant Director reports to the Director and assists in ensuring the College’s compliance with the United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) related to non-immigrant students. In addition, the Assistant Director assists with the development and implementation of cross-cultural programing for international students and the Baruch College community.

  • Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) to manage international student’s information in the SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Immigration System) database;

  • Monitors the interface between the College system and the SEVIS System;

  • Advises international students and prepares immigration forms;

  • Prepares regular electronic communication to students regarding SEVIS updates and compliance issues;

  • Coordinates the Orientation for all new incoming international students, including the preparation of pre-arrival information;-

  • Assists in planning and implementing informational workshops and activities on topics of interest to the international students;

  • Maintains relevant international students SEVIS records, prepares statistics and generates weekly reports;

  • Communicates with various departments across the College to keep them abreast of current immigration regulations affecting international students;

  • Collaborates with various staff members of the Center to actively implement and achieve departmental goals and objectives;

  • Assists the Director with daily office operations, supervising staff and the implementation of departmental goals and objectives.


A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Four (4) years of experience in international student advising is strongly preferred. Experience and skill in cross-cultural advising and counseling is also preferred. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of F-1 and J-1 immigration rules and regulations, along with familiarity with SEVIS policies and procedures. Must have experience in implementation of student programs for a diverse student population. Must have a strong ability to establish priorities and manage multiple demands and assignments. Attention to detail and exceptional customer service skills are essential, along with excellent organizational, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be proficient using Microsoft Office software programs and/or other e-mail / scheduling programs and education management software. As per the Department of Homeland Security requirements, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required in order to serve as a DSO or ARO.


Master’s degree preferred. In addition to the qualification requirements, the candidate must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Experience is assessing effectiveness of programming efforts, marketing of events through communication tools and social media platforms. Flexibility and ability to work evening and weekend, if needed


Organizes and administers programs to support the success of international students.

  • Coordinates international student recruitment and enrollment services

  • Collects, evaluates, and reports information on a number of international student success factors

  • Works with campus departments on programs which promote the success of international students

  • Creates and implements communications strategies, workshops/events, and other special resources to support the international student community

  • Monitors compliance activities at the campus (e.g., visas, SEVIS and other reports) and stays current on regulations and other developments

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
