FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York, seeks an accomplished practitioner-educator in Health Information Technology (HIT) to serve on the faculty and support the culture of teaching and learning across the institution. This position will begin fall 2022. Faculty are required to teach a 24-hour course load across Guttman’s two 12-week Fall and Spring semesters and 6-week Fall II intersession (visit the Guttman Academic calendar online for dates). Some of the course load will be hybrid or online.

Guttman's HIT program combines lectures and labs and follows a curriculum based on current associate degree entry-level competencies outlined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The HIT faculty member will have the opportunity to further shape the program and to help students master the knowledge and skills that are expected of entry-level professionals in this fast-growing field. The successful candidate will also share the College's vision to serve a linguistically and culturally diverse student body and will be committed to preparing urban community college students for academic success and completion.

As the newest community college in the CUNY system, Guttman is a student success centered environment committed to helping students reach their intellectual and professional goals. Guttman's associate-degree programs prepare students for successful entrance into the workforce or transfer to a baccalaureate institution. The College’s instructional model combines high-impact educational practices that include learning communities, peer mentoring, experiential learning, and full-time first year attendance. Academic technology is integral to the delivery and assessment of student learning and advising. Faculty collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment as part of a first-year instructional team, and support Guttman’s six Programs of Study (Business Administration, Human Services, Information Technology, Liberal Arts, Science, and Urban Studies).

Guttman Community College is a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a culturally diverse student body drawn from across New York City. The College strives to create and to maintain an inclusive learning environment. Guttman seeks staff and faculty members who are committed to access and excellence in higher education, thrive in multicultural academic environments and contribute to our mission of educational justice for students in our diverse community. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and cross-cultural competence in educational and workplace environments. A majority of our students enroll directly out of high school. Faculty members must demonstrate the ability to use effective pedagogical approaches and technology-based strategies that support the success of all students and a variety of learning styles.
