CUNY Assistant Professor - 3D Animation & Gaming (Art) in New York, New York

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The City College of New York, CUNY invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in 3D Animation and Gaming in the Electronic Design and Multimedia (EDM) program of the Art Department. Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate courses to BA and BFA students in more than one of the following areas: 3D imaging, modeling and animation (foundation and advanced levels), gaming workshops, programming for artists, and related special topics courses which may include 3D fabrication, virtual environments, and interactive design, plus a possible graduate course in the Art Department’s Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice (DIAP) MFA program. Course offerings should incorporate concept-driven projects using Cinema 4D or other 3D software, and game engines such as Unity. Candidates should be comfortable with a trans-media approach to digital media and an interest in hybrid practices.

The position includes shared responsibility for Electronic Design and Multimedia program administration as well as department and university committee work and student advisement (including advising on BFA students’ Senior Thesis).

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must have a Masters in Fine Arts in 3D Modeling/Animation, Game Design, or related area of digital media art practice. The candidate must maintain an outstanding creative portfolio with a strong exhibition record or similar public presentations and evidence of ongoing creative research. As an Art Department with a wide range of artistic practices, we are particularly interested in seeing the applicant’s critical and/or artistic approach to 3D Modeling/Animation, Game Design within the arts and culture.

The candidate must have two years of professional working experience in the field of 3D Design/Animation, Gaming, or closely related area and one-year full time teaching experience at the university level, or equivalent. Related expertise in Processing, Javascript, Python, PHP, audio and video, mobile media, or other emerging technologies and familiarity with Mac OS systems is beneficial. The candidate should have superb organizational and administrative skills and be conversant with contemporary media art practice, criticism, and media art theory. Success in obtaining funding through grant applications or industry partnerships is extremely desirable.
