FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Music at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure-track position.

Responsibilities: Performs teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise.

The Hunter Music Department seeks a dynamic choral educator and voice teacher to lead a thriving choral studies program that includes ensembles, voice instruction, and coaching. The ideal candidate will recruit singers within and beyond Hunter to create a culture of singing open to all levels of experience and ability. The choral area currently includes a large, non-audition concert choir and chamber singers. The ideal candidate will support singing beyond the choirs and build collaborative projects with Hunter ensembles, such as the Hunter Symphony Orchestra, Hunter Opera Theater, and the Hunter Jazz Ensemble as well as with organizations throughout New York City. The program aims to provide a welcoming singing culture that prepares for lifelong enjoyment or a career in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS

A D.M.A. or other terminal degree is preferred, a minimum of ABD status with a clear date of completion of a doctorate is required. Other requirements include three years of teaching experience in higher education in choral studies, an active career as a vocal coach and/or voice teacher, professional experience as a choral conductor of at least five years, professional level skills as a collaborative pianist, professional administrative experience with choirs such as a church position or reasonable equivalent, professional experience with new music, and experience conducting theatrical/operatic works. The candidate will be expected to recruit and maintain a studio of applied voice students in addition to leading the choirs. A demonstrated record of successful voice instruction is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate demonstrates an ability to advise undergraduate students and develop and participate in programs designed to enhance the experience of music majors through excellent teaching and creative curriculum development. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary teaching as well as an ability to work with diverse student populations with varying degrees and types of musical experience.

Vaccine Requirement:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

CUNY offers a competitive compensation and benefits package to its faculty, covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience within range: $51,242 - $97,580.
