FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Communication Studies at Baruch College invites applications for two assistant professor positions beginning in August of 2023. For the first position, the ideal candidate will be a specialist in the area of Rhetoric and Public Advocacy (broadly defined) and will also possess a deep and comprehensive knowledge of the discipline of communication studies. For the second position, the ideal candidate will be a specialist in the area of Intercultural and International Communication (broadly defined) and will also possess a deep and comprehensive knowledge of the discipline of communication studies. Finally, for each position, the ideal candidate will have the ability to direct thesis and capstone projects in the department’s Master’s program in Corporate Communication, and to enhance the department’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Baruch College, located in the historic Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan, is a senior college in the City University of New York, with roughly 15,000 undergraduate and 3,000graduate students enrolled in three schools: the Lawrence Zicklin School of Business; theMildred and George Weissman School of Arts and Sciences; and the Austin W. Marxe School ofPublic and International Affairs. The Department of Communication Studies, located in the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, offers several basic communication courses (at least one of which is required of almost all undergraduates in the College), as well as two undergraduatemajors: one in Corporate Communication, which is the third largest major in the college; and onein Communication Studies, which is currently the fastest growing major in the college. TheDepartment also offers an undergraduate minor in Communication Studies, which is the largestminor in the College, with an enrollment of over one-thousand students. In addition to itsundergraduate offerings, the Department also offers a master’s degree in CorporateCommunication, with an enrollment of approximately sixty students.

NOTES:

All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the tri-state area.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in communication studies or a related field at the time of appointment is required for this position.

COMPENSATION

$72,667 - $90,375; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
