ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE
John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in August 2024. Area of specialization: social and political philosophy. Area of competence: open, but the department has special interest in candidates with teaching expertise in philosophical issues surrounding technology, philosophy of law, and international law.The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.
The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. They will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. ABOUT JOHN JAY’S PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT
John Jay’s diverse philosophy department in the center of Manhattan offers undergraduates a BA in philosophy. The department also participates in several multidisciplinary majors, including a BA in Humanities and Justice. Department faculty regularly teach in the Honors College, and several are appointed as doctoral faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in Philosophy required for appointment to professorial title of Assistant Professor. Degree must be completed by Summer 2024. (Outstanding ABDs considered for appointment at rank of Lecturer (untenured)). We seek teachers and researchers committed to public higher education. Scholarly promise and demonstrated ability to engage successfully in undergraduate teaching are required, as well aswillingness to work with members of departments across the College for the good of the institution, possibly including teaching in interdisciplinary programs and/or some team-teaching.

COMPENSATION
$52,667- $99,532 Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
