ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Public Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for an advanced, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Public Management and Policy to begin in Fall 2023. We are particularly interested in disaster policy and management in Northeast Asia, and social equity and government accountability in disaster management. The College's interdisciplinary Department of Public Management houses the undergraduate Public Administration, Criminal Justice Management, and Fraud Examination and Financial Forensics majors. The Public Management Department faculty also teach in the College's NASPAA-accredited and nationally-ranked MPA Program.

We value applicants interested in research and teaching in public administration and advanced data management. A doctorate in Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity,equity, and inclusion. Responsibilities include instruction at the graduate and undergraduate levels, an active program of scholarship, instruction on-campus and on-line, and participation in service activities. Successful candidates must demonstrate an active record of scholarship; ability and willingness to teach core and elective courses in undergraduate and graduate programs; effective public and policy engagement; and a keen interest in interacting with students, faculty, staff, and policy practitioners in an interdisciplinary professional environment.The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences. The ability tocooperate with others for the good of the institution is highly valued.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to their campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in public administration, economics, or closely related field at time of appointment is required.The successful candidate will have an active record of scholarly productivity, strong teaching experience, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A record of, or demonstrated potential for, scholarly success in the area of public management or related area.

  • Evidence of providing impactful learning experiences for students.

  • Experience in teaching diverse student populations.

  • A record of, or strong potential for, obtaining external research support.

  • Expertise with a wide array of analytical methods.

  • Interest in engaging with local, state, and national public service organizations in related areas of expertise.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience within the range of $72,667 - $99,532.
