The Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College invites applications for a tenure track position for an Assistant Professor of public service leadership and management, beginning in August 2023.

The Marxe School welcomes candidates withpublic service experience in government, nonprofit or business organizations, as well as a record of research and publication in institutionally-focused disciplines in public administration, such as organizational behavior and development, governance, leadership development, strategic management, inter-organizational relations, social entrepreneurship and innovation, human resources administration, or information and communication technologies. We are especially interested in candidates who have a strong interest and commitment to understanding how to build more diverse, equitable, and just organizations, and to understanding critical theoretical and practical approaches to leadership and management.

The position requires teaching the core graduate-level leadership and management course in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and other professional degrees offered by the Marxe School (Master of Science in Higher Education, Master of International Affairs, and Master of Science in Arts Administration), as well as the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs. The position has a reduced teaching load until tenure.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.


The candidate must have completed a doctorate or its equivalent prior to the teaching start date for the fall 2023 semester. The position is open to any relevant academic discipline. Professional experience and a research agenda is required. Also required is evidence of teaching effectiveness. Familiarity and comfort with case method teaching is desirable.
