FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
In the Division of Humanities and Arts at the City College (CCNY) of the City University of New
York (CUNY), New York, NY, the candidate will be responsible for teaching, research and
administration of a high-level Jewish Studies program. Teaching duties: Develop curriculum and
instruct a range of courses from introductory classes designed for freshman students to
advanced-level seminars for the students of the Jewish studies program. Research duties:
Develop and engage in research on the modern literatures in Hebrew and Yiddish and publish
original peer-reviewed scholarly work in professional journals; Administrative duties: Propose
new courses and compile/assign/grade examinations and projects; serve on the Department and
College committees; and coordinate the college’s programs as demanded. The successful
candidate will be expected to support the mission of the college by working in professional
development activities. Specific assignments are dependent upon department needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Comparative Literature or a closely related discipline with published research and clear
research agenda; Must be a scholar of Jewish literature who works with Hebrew and Yiddish
sources; Excellent skills to communicate expertise effectively to a diverse student body; Strong
ability to work effectively with faculty/staff from varied ethnic/cultural/socioeconomic
backgrounds.
