CUNY Assistant Professor - Visual Communication/Graphic Design (Art) in New York, New York
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Art Department of the City College of New York invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Visual Communication and/or Graphic Design in the Electronic Design and Multimedia (EDM) program. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in typography (foundation and advanced levels), design theory, design methodology, brand identity, publication design and interface design to BA and BFA students, plus a possible graduate course in the Art Department's Digital Interdisciplinary Art Practice (DIAP) program. Candidates should demonstrate conceptual exploration practical experience with the full range of digital-centric digital media used in the graphic design discipline and should be comfortable with the integration of design and media production for print and screen.
Position includes shared responsibility for Electronic Design and Multimedia program administration as well as department and university committee work and student advisement (including advising on BFA students' Senior Thesis).
The candidate must have a Masters in Fine Arts in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related area of digital media practice. Candidate should have two years of professional working experience in the field of graphic design or closely related area and at least one-year of full time teaching experience at the university level, or equivalent, preferred.
Candidate must maintain an outstanding creative portfolio with evidence of ongoing creative research. Candidate should have superb organizational and administrative skills, should be Mac OS and Adobe Creative Cloud-savvy, and should be conversant in design history, design theory/methodology, and current directions in graphic design and technology. Success in obtaining funding through grant applications or industry partnerships is extremely desirable.
