POSITION DETAILS
The Graduate Center is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master's programs of the highest caliber, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC).
The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni—who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City's intellectual and cultural life.
Reporting to the Coordinator of the Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Certificate (ITP) program, with a dotted reporting line to the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), the ITP/TLC Assistant Program Officer (APO) will assist both programs with all aspects of departmental administration including personnel actions, budgeting, purchasing, scheduling courses and events, and serving as a liaison to other administrative offices at the Graduate Center. In addition, the successful candidate will take an active role in supporting the space and technology related to the programs.
This is a terrific opportunity to learn more about academic administration, faculty and program development, the scholarship of teaching and learning, educational technology, the CUNY context, and much more. The successful candidate will join a tight-knit community of educators committed to supporting each other and teaching and learning at CUNY.
About the Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Certificate Program
The Interactive Technology and Pedagogy (ITP) certificate program teaches students how to use technology in their research and teaching. ITP provides intellectual insights and technical training to prepare students for employment in academia and beyond by advancing their skills as critical and creative makers and users of technology. The nine-credit, three-course sequence offers an interdisciplinary environment to gain theoretical, historical, philosophical, literary, and sociological knowledge on technology and pedagogy, and explore the implications of their intersection in the classroom, academic research and scholarly publication. Students learn praxis-oriented methodologies for digital research and pedagogy, and complete capstone projects under the mentorship of one of our doctoral faculty members, drawn from across the disciplines. To read more about ITP, please see https://gc.cuny.edu/itp.
About the Teaching and Learning Center
The CUNY Graduate Center’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) creates and connects opportunities for GC students to grow as educators and scholars within the nation’s largest public urban university system. As one of the few teaching centers dedicated to working with graduate student instructors, the TLC prepares new college teachers for their entry into the classroom, guides developing teachers as they refine their practices, and helps experienced teachers think through how to best apply what they’ve learned in the next stages of their careers, whether those careers be inside or outside the classroom. The TLC’s programs are explicitly designed to generate, engage with, and integrate the concerns of the students whom it serves, and Graduate Center students take an active role in shaping the Center’s priorities and areas of focus. Unifying all TLC activities is a commitment to building and supporting community among educators teaching at CUNY. To read more about the TLC and its programs, please see http://cuny.is/teaching .
