POSITION DETAILS

The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks an experienced advancement operations professional for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement Operations (AVCAO). Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the AVCAO will play a leadership role in the development and oversight of CUNY’s central advancement operations.

Following an in-depth review of the fundraising history and operations of CUNY and its 25 constituent colleges, the University embarked upon an ambitious plan to build a new central advancement office which pursues University-wide fundraising goals and supports college fundraising through a shared services model. The AVCAO plays an integral role in the development and management of this university office, and will have responsibility for the design and implementation of advancement services systems and protocols to be undertaken in support of the University’s priorities as part of a university-wide effort to significantly increase philanthropic support.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees planning and implementation of the shared services model in the areas of annual giving, database management, and research services.

  • Designs and plans components of the shared services model; directs and coordinates financial planning and budget management functions.

  • Provides consultative services to centrally located and college-based advancement staff on issues and programs related to shared services functions.

  • Establishes and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the goals and objectives of the University’s Advancement Operations.

  • Develops and executes strategies for continuous quality improvement in services to, and communication with, college constituencies, and develops processes for anticipating and meeting the University’s and colleges’ fundraising, data and research needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong managerial experience in advancement operations with a demonstrated ability to effectively define vision and strategy, including creation of systems, implementation, and training.

  • Experience in higher education strongly preferred.

  • Data driven and a strong attention to detail

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • A high degree of initiative and an ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of development/fundraising concepts and techniques.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with donors, volunteers, senior administrators, faculty and development staff.

  • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.

  • Working knowledge of best practices in gift planning and procedures.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $150,000 - $175,000, commensurate with education and experience.
