The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27 months program). The Dean's Office is currently seeking an Associate Dean for Clinical Administration, Finance, and Strategy. Reporting to Dean, this position serves as a key and senior advisor to the Dean of the CUNY School of Medicine for non-academic matters. This position is responsible for managing the administrative operations of the School, including budgetary and financial management, academic personnel and human resources, and facilities and clinical affiliations.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):


• Serves as the senior advisor to the Dean

• Oversees the Administration and Finance office

• Oversees all human resources activities including personnel, policy, and procedures for faculty, staff and students for the School

• Oversees all IT activities for the School

• Oversees all budgeting and finances for the school including payroll and procurement

• Assist with the planning and implementation of LCME accreditation strategies and activities.

• Assist with the planning and implementation of clinical affiliations and strategies

• Oversees onboarding of all personnel

• Oversees the School's space planning, facilities and addresses infrastructure issues

• Directs IT, human resources and finance staff

Financial Planning

• Develops and coordinates the School's annual academic and operating budget planning process, forecasts and predicts resource requirements for new and existing programs, and develops funding strategies.

• Direct and coordinate financial planning and resource allocation for the School's operating budget.

• Develop and recommend annual departmental budgets in conjunction with Department Chairs/Program Directors and the University Budget Office for the approval of the Dean as chief Academic and Administrative Officer.

• Maintain a sound financial environment and good business practices, work closely with other CUNY, CCNY, and School administrators who process and record financial transactions to ensure timely and accurate financial information, to monitor accounts and resolve problems ensure compliance, to safeguard resources and reduce risk.

Human Resources

• Oversees Personnel to include facilitating appropriate appointments; review and processing ofHEO screening material; salary and performance evaluation administration; and coordination of affirmative action activities for the School. • Coordinate Personnel services with the City College to include facilitating appropriate appointments; review and processing of HEO screening material; salary and performance evaluation administration; and coordination of affirmative action activities. • Streamlines processes such that they are efficient and effective for hiring and paying personnel and vendors

• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and experience working on behalf of populations who are underserved, vulnerable, marginalized, and underrepresented in medicine.

Facilities and Space Planning

• Assists with developing, implementing and evaluating space/facility plans and strategies to support the research, clinical, teaching, faculty and operational requirements of the School.

• Oversees special projects as required by the Dean on complex issues affecting the medical school's development.

• Coordinate purchasing and materials operations with the City College and the City University, and outside vendors. • Participate on several standing Faculty Committees as ex-officio member as designated by the Dean.

• Participate with CCNY in ongoing activities and committees


This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A relevant Master’s degree (MBA preferred) and a minimum of 10 years of related management experience at a senior level within academic medicine or higher education is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of emerging health care trends.

  • Recognized leader in the health care administration

  • Able to partner with clinical, research, and academic administrative leaders.

  • A seasoned leader with proven experience in strategic planning, quality assurance and performance and employee engagement.

  • Experience with and knowledge of healthcare compliance and regulatory affairs and operations. Knowledge, understanding and experience with grants management.

  • Superior interpersonal and effective communication skills (written and oral).

  • Expertise in conflict management, coaching, building and leading cohesive teams.

  • Strong understanding of the culture of academic medicine and the ability to address faculty concerns.

  • Recognized leader experienced in developing and leading a faculty group practice.

  • Entrepreneurial and creative growth mindset.

  • Experience in growing business units and operations management within academic medicine. Experience building clinical delivery units and negotiating clinical affiliation agreements, financial reporting, budgets, and regulatory filings.

  • Experience providing oversight for purchasing or materials management department.

  • Ability to prioritize and identify short- and long-term goals for growth of the medical school business enterprise.
