CUNY Associate Dean (School of Social Work) in New York, New York


The Associate Dean administers one or more key College programs. He/she develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to produce high-quality results and meet strategic goals. He/she also coordinates activities among the College, and may oversee staff, budget, operations, and facilities.

The Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs reports to the Dean and responsibilities include the following:

  • Oversee and supervise the MSW Field Education and Student Services Departments

  • Supervise the Director of the MSW Program

  • Supervise the Director of Field Education

  • Supervise the Director of Student Services

  • Direct and oversee the Registrar regarding course scheduling and faculty assignment

  • Provide administrative support and assistance to full-time and adjunct faculty

  • Develop and prepare full-time faculty workload in consultation with the faculty and the Dean

  • Construct and implement the course schedule of classes

  • Implement flexibility in delivering courses across the course schedule

  • Develop innovative course offerings in cooperation with the faculty

  • Responsible for developing and integrating the use of technology across the MSW and BSW curricula, and Field Education and Student Services Departments

  • Identify and implement courses to be delivered partially on-line

  • Oversee and supervise the Education Technologist position

  • Establish core competencies across curricula areas and oversee the implementation and reporting of competency measures

  • Identify and hire adjunct faculty in consultation with curricula area Chairs and the Dean

  • Develop and implement orientation and on-going training for adjunct faculty

  • In consultation with the Dean, design and implement faculty development initiatives for full-time and adjunct faculty

  • In consultation with the Dean, collaborate with senior administrative staff and faculty to explore the development of new program options

  • Oversee the Educational Review Policy to provide clear guidelines, standards, and procedures for grading and student performance in the classroom and field practicum

  • Develop and implement new procedures for student field performance review (for example, monitoring systems, and academic and field advisement)

  • Participate in the Annual Goal Planning process for full-time faculty

  • Represent the Dean on various School and College committees and at events as needed.


This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years of related experience. Additional qualifications are listed below.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Social Welfare or Social Work with experience in curriculum development, educational technology, program and policy development, course scheduling, identifying and hiring adjunct faculty and designing and implementing faculty development initiatives. In addition a successful candidate should also have experience in the creation and implementation of interdisciplinary programs and extensive experience working with social work students and faculty. Masters in Social Work preferred.
