Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for the position of Associate Professor or Professor in Public Policy and Director of the Academic Public Policy Program. We seek a public policy expert, preferably with experience working in a college environment, to lead the program in Public Policy, situated at Hunter College's Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative supervisory, and other functions.

Hunter College is the largest college of the City University of New York. It is comprised of five schools: Arts and Sciences, Education, Nursing, Public Health, and Social Work, and has nearly 600 full-time faculty members. Hunter enrolls over 23,000 students, and has one of the most diverse student bodies in the United States. Located near the main campus of Hunter College, the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute is based in the renovated home of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and is dedicated to fostering academic and public engagement in a wide range of domestic policy issues and international human rights. The Institute opened in 2010.

As part of its responsibilities, Roosevelt House administers two interdisciplinary programs for undergraduates in public policy and human rights. The Public Policy Program offers students the opportunity of fulfilling the requirements for either an 18-credit minor or a more advanced 27-credit certificate in Public Policy. There are over 116 students currently enrolled in the Public Policy Program.

The successful candidate will be the Public Policy Program Director and will perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in the area of expertise. The successful candidate will work closely with the faculty committee and its Chair in the planning and development of new courses, some of which s/he will teach. In addition, they will serve as the adviser for Public Policy students, guiding them through the program and developing exciting extra-curricular activities for them outside the classroom (e.g., special trips to Washington, D.C., meetings with leading government officials and policy specialists in New York) and encouraging them to take advantage of internship opportunities. The successful candidate will be responsible for running the existing internship and civic engagement programs and developing new ones. Finally, the successful candidate will work closely with the Director and Managers of Roosevelt House in developing policy-themed academic conferences and public programs and to publicizing them at Hunter College and in the wider community. The Director will also convene subject matter experts to discuss and consider important public policy initiatives. The successful candidate will also work with faculty associates, offering support for research initiatives and centers based at Roosevelt House.

Ph.D., or terminal degree in area of expertise or equivalent. Record of publications and active scholarly agenda required. Demonstrated leadership, teaching, and practical experience in public policy is preferred. Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
