POSITION DETAILS

Borough of Manhattan Community College seeks an experienced individual who has the ability to work independently and as part of a successful BMCC Learning Academy team serving a diverse student population. The BMCC Learning Academy offers students an integrated and comprehensive system of support from the point of admission to graduation and transfer. The key program features include individualized advisement, success seminars, high impact activities, faculty connection, career building skills and experiences, and connection to student support services and campus resources. Reporting to the Director of the BMCC Learning Academy, the successful candidate’s central responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain advisor caseloads, scheduling, and ensure integrity of BLA advisement.

  • Maintain advisement reports to track student retention, graduation and transfers.

  • Develop and implement strategic retention initiatives, and lead program’s subcommittee on retention.

  • Collaborate and maintain strong relationships with campus offices; provide students seamless transition into BMCC and pertinent support to maintain good academic standing.

  • Develop and schedule monthly staff trainings for continuous relevant professional development of program advisors.

  • Oversee advisors’ use of Starfish, the program’s early alert system; and oversee peer-mentoring program.

  • Regularly check in with senior advisors to address curricular, policy, and staffing concerns.

  • Create and coordinate two weeks on-boarding training with all new staff members to ensure proper transition and adjustment to position and BMCC.

  • Collect assessment data and report on all retention initiatives.

  • Keep abreast on current retention best practices and disseminate to staff accordingly.

  • Assist Director with scheduling of BLA success seminars and learning communities, and planning and implementation of program assessment.

  • Serve on various campus committees, including assessment and search committees.

  • Serve as representative on behalf of program at events and presentations.

  • Manage caseload of fifty students and lead success seminars.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and at least six years’ of experience required. Experience supervising and/or leading professional staff required. Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to adapt to fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Experience working with a diverse student population. Strong organization and record-keeping skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required.

Master’s degree in student personnel administration, higher education, or related field with six years’ experience in higher education highly preferred.

  • Implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan; makes recommendations to improve department policies and procedures

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

  • May manage professional and/or clerical staff

  • May act on behalf of Director in his/her absence

Salary: $61,394 - $97,628
